| A1 DaBabyGurl was born in Berlin, Germany in 1982, although she was raised in New Jersey. Her father was a guitarist in a band in Germany, and her mother had a very eclectic music background. Growing up in A1's household the music they listened to ranged from Depeche Mode, Sade, Mozart, Regina Carter, Bon Jovi and many others. However, house music has always been her first love. At a young age she began to listen to mixed cds as well as radio stations such as KISS FM which played house music. Her mother would share stories about such places as the Garage (NYC), Zanzibar (NJ), and a few other places. This only made her interest for house music grow even stronger.
In 2006 a friend introduced her to facethebass.com which played house 24/7. From this introduction, she was able to connect with people all over the world who shared the same love and passion for house. This passion caused her curiosity to grow. She wanted to know more about music, production, and equipment. She was able to network with the administrator of facethebass.com (Dj Speedy) along with many others who encouraged her to pursue becoming a DJ.
In December 2006, A1 made her first live debut on facethebass.com, and in 2007 she was given her own time slot on facethebass.com called "Saucey Soundz". She has also been a guest DJ on other web sites such as cyberjamz.com and globalsoulradio.com. Because of the exposure she received, she has been invited to play at different venues throughout New Jersey and Atlanta, where she now resides. A1 recently joined Unified Spirits, becoming the 1st Lady of Unified Spirits carrying the motto "NEW TREATS". You can still hear her play on facethebass.com -- every Sunday, 8 pm EST -- bringing the soulful, but open "new ear" to house. |
